I’ve homebrewed on my campus as did one of my previous roommates. There is no campus ban on it because as of right now no one but me and 2 other people have thought of it. We don’t make a big deal about it because we are afraid if we bring attention to our hobby the administration would take notice and ban it.

I was a buckeye and a homebrewer. I got my start at The Winemaker’s Shop on North High. I remember walking in to buy an equipment setup and having no real idea what was going on and hoping I didn’t have to prove I was 21. I recall telling them I liked Guinness and the worker asked me if I really wanted 5 gallons of it. Hell yeah I would! After that I would spend the parties at our place on East Patterson in the basement preaching the gospel of homebrew while kegs of Naty Light flowed up stairs.

beer brewing is, among many things, applied chemistry! it’s good to know that all those hours in lecture and lab, note taking, and geeking out with the physical sciences are so relevant to the hobby of homebrewing.

Oh… College days! I was in the same boat as you and every one else. I can’t believe that the times have changed that much! I guess the good old days certainly did not revolve around the good new beer! Good for them!

The main reason I would see homebrewing being popular on campus is that you don’t have to be 21 to buy homebrew supplies.

Given the knee jerk reactionary nature of most authorities these days, I wonder how long it will take for bans to be put in place on brewing on college campuses? Going hand in hand with encouraging homebrewing should be advocating to have the legal age for alcohol consumption lowered to 18. 21 is simply ridiculous. Want to put your life on the line for country at 18? Sure, sign here please. Want to have a beer to unwind haven’t put said 18 year old life on the line? Nope, we have to protect the children. Bullshit. Lower the age.
