There are tech geeks, beer geeks, Internet geeks, comic geeks, gamers, live action role players (larpers FTW!), art geeks … heck, you can just about geek out about anything these days.

But, some geeks tend to be just slightly more “geeky” on the geek spectrum than other geeks.

Almost everyone in the craft beer industry falls into the geek category (some more extreme than others). Because of the high level of engineering, chemistry, and physics involved in the brewing process, most brewers are super science nerds. And those that aren’t, usually fall into the “artsy” geek or “geeky artist (whichever you prefer) category.

I have found, as a result of my Featured Beer Blogger series, that many beer bloggers work by day in the tech industry. A lot of bloggers write their own code and develop websites and apps for a living … and we all know how weird those coder guys are, right? (hehehe jk, Stephen).

This morning, I stumbled across a rather entertaining blog post, written by a tech geek for tech geeks highlighting the “Ten Best Beers For Tech Geeks”. The list includes the likes of Mikkeler Beer Geek Brunch, New England Imperial Stout Trooper, Hopworks Gigabit IPA, and Sapporo Space Barley — detailing the reasoning behind why these beers are perfect for the tech geeks. Check out the full list HERE.

The list is pretty impressive, and surprisingly turned me on to beers that I have never crossed my radar. However, as a somewhat tech nerd (mostly just Internet geek/ Social Media Maven) and a hardcore beer geek of the highest level, I felt it necessary to throw in some of my own suggestions (in no particular order):

Best Tech Geek Beers (con’t)

  • 21st Amendment’s “Spring Tweet”: Shaun O’Sullivan brewed a beer for the folks at Twitter, whose headquarters is conveniently located next to the brewpub. Watch the announcement here. #winning
  • Firestone Walker Parabola: A beer named for the intersection of a right circular conical surface and a plane parallel to a generating straight line of that surface? Super geeky.
  • Firestone Walker Abacus: This beer is also an ancient mathematical calculating tool. Totally nerd-a-licious.
  • Dogfish Head Midas Touch: This recipe is based on molecular evidence found in a Turkish tomb believed to have belonged to King Midas. History geeks rejoice!
  • Elysian Brewing “Avatar IPA”: All good tech geeks know what an avatar is… duh, winning!
  • Deschutes “The Abyss”: The Abyss is also a 1989 science fiction film written and directed by James Cameron.
  • Three Floyd’s “Dark Lord”: Doesn’t matter whether this beer reminds you of the Dark Lord of The Sith, Dark Lord of Mordor or Dark Lord Morgoth — Dark Lord = geek. And Dark Lord Day is the epitome of beer geekness.

I know I missed a lot… what other beers would you add to the list?
