Beer geeks around the world rejoice! The delicious nectar known as Parabola Imperial Stout is being released in bottles for the first time THIS SATURDAY (May 8th)! Here is a link to the official press release –> parabola press
But before you get all excited, the release is super limited (1000 cases) and it is a one time deal. So once it is gone, it’s gone.
Personally, I can attest to the pure awesomeness of Parabola. I had it on tap during at the Firestone Walker 13th on the 13th event at Stone World Gardens & Bistro during San Diego Beer Week. Firestone Walker paired up with the famous Dr. Bill Sysak of Stone for the first tapping of its 13th Anniversary Ale. Prior to the big unveiling, Firestone offered tastings of the “blending beers” that go into each vintage of the anniversary ales. This was when I got my first taste of Parabola.
Parabola, a wickedly intense Bourbon Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout, is a major component of the Firestone Walker anniversary blends. It is not for the weak of heart (or palate). This beer featured bold aromas of bourbon and tobacco and a rich dark chocolate, charred oak flavor. This beer is best consumed in moderation, at slightly warmer than cellar temperatures, and makes a great accompaniment to dessert.
Unfortunately, I will be at the 14th Annual Legendary Boonville Festival this Saturday and will not have the opportunity to take a trip to Paso Robles to snatch up some bottles of Parabola. I only hope that the stock will hold out and I will be able to find some next week.
As with any of its anniversary ale releases, if you see this beer on the shelf, BUY IT. Do not hesitate or blink, because it will be gone. And then you will be forced to buy it off Ebay for twice, if not three of four times, the price!
Cheers!

it’s an Imperial Stout NOT an Imperial IPA as noted in the first paragraph. Nice pic of the barrel.
